Five families, thirty-four bars

The families overlap more than the names suggest. Pick the one that sounds like your bathroom and start there.

Citrus & Sage Soap — handmade soap from Ashley Marie Soap

Citrus

Bright and short-lived. Citrus essential oils fade fastest in a cured bar, so these are the ones to buy closer to when you will use them.

Still stuck between four of them?

Five questions — when you shower, what your skin does, how loud you like a scent. It runs in the browser and never asks for an email address.

Why a handmade bar behaves differently

Three things that are true of every bar here, and are the reason they cost more than a supermarket four-pack.

Four ingredients

Oils, lye, water, scent. Cold-process soap is a chemical reaction between fat and alkali, finished slowly at room temperature rather than cooked. Nothing is added to make it lather harder or last on a shelf.

Four to six weeks on a rack

The cure is the part that cannot be bought around. Water evaporates, the bar hardens, the lather turns creamier. A bar sold at two weeks dissolves in a wet shower; one sold at six does not.

One person, one kitchen

Every batch is limited by what fits on a curing rack. That is why scents come and go, why no two bars in a batch swirl the same, and why the odd cuts go to the imperfect pile rather than the bin.

01

Oils melted, lye measured

Olive, coconut, tallow or shea depending on the bar. The lye solution is weighed to the gram — cold-process soap is chemistry before it is anything else.

02

Poured, swirled, left overnight

Colour goes in by hand, which is why no two bars in a batch match. The mould sits covered for twenty-four hours while saponification does its work.

03

Cut the next morning

The loaf is turned out and cut into bars with a wire. Ends and odd cuts go to the imperfect pile rather than the bin.

04

Four to six weeks on the rack

Water evaporates, the bar hardens, the lather gets creamier. This is the part you cannot buy your way out of. Then it gets a label and a box.

The Soap Club

A standing delivery, so the dish is never empty

A bar lasts roughly a month and a cure takes four to six weeks. Those two timelines are almost never in sync, which is the whole reason the club exists.

Pick them or let Ashley pick

Choose your scents each delivery, or leave it open and take what came off the rack that month.

Skip, pause, or stop

Managed from your account. There is no phone call and no retention offer.

First call on a small batch

Club boxes are packed before the shop grid updates, so a sold-out scent often ships to members anyway.

When I received this soap I couldn't stop admiring the color. The intricate swirls were very beautiful and it smells divine! Smells exactly as described. It makes my skin feel great as well.

I love all of Ashley Marie's soaps. They are excellent quality, gentle on sensitive skin, smell amazing, and last forever. I've tried every scent, and I have a hard time choosing because they are all so good! I especially love Milk, Oats, and Honey!

One person, one kitchen, one batch at a time

Ashley Marie Soap is a small operation in La Verkin, Utah. Batches are limited by how much fits on a curing rack, which means scents come and go with what is in season and what sold out last month.

If a bar you liked is missing, it is usually curing. Sign up at the bottom of this page and you will hear when it is back.
